Dying Easter Eggs the natural way
DO NOT EAT THESE EGGS NOT ALL WILL BE SAFE TO EAT AFTER DYING!!!
The more dye material you use and the longer the eggs soak the darker the
colours eggs can be Soaked overnight.
If you cover a portion of the egg with elastics, string, ribbon, felt
markers, tape, you can create interesting patterns. Wrap the eggs in cheese
cloth before boiling to get a mottled effect
Hard boil the eggs first for smaller children if you are going to create
designs.
Rub eggs with fruits to obtain pastel colours
Colours can be made by using the following materials:
-
Red skins from red onions boil with the eggs for ½ to 1 hour. A
small amount of skins will make a lavender colour
-
Pink soak hardboiled eggs in cranberry juice or pickled beet juice
-
Blue (violet) soak hardboiled eggs for several hours (overnight) in hot
water to which you have added purple flower blossoms
-
Lavender soak hardboiled eggs in grape juice
-
Yellow boil eggs in water that has had 1 1 ½ teaspoons of
turmeric and ½ teaspoon of vinegar for every cup of water
-
Brown for each cup of hot water add 1 tbsp of instant coffee and ½
tsp of vinegar
-
Green boil grass in water, strain dye and cook eggs in the grass water
