Bright Ideas - Program

Brownie Tsunami Aid (Thinking Day 2005)

Brownies and Sparks will join WAGGGS in the effort to aid other Brownies in the countries affected by the Tsunami.

They will travel to 4 of these countries, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kenya, and Bangladesh.

The girls will give aid to each country, learn about the history and flag of each country, as well as learn about the Brownies that live there.

They will also make a craft to remember there time in each country.

The room will be divided up into 4 areas, one for each country.

There will be a flag on the wall for each country as well as a map so the girls can see where they are located.

The girls will spend about 15 min at each country.

Leaving time for before for organizing groups, and after for the welcome home reception.

When the girls arrive, they will be put into 4 different groups (Brownies and Sparks).

Each country will have first-aid bags. These will be white gift bags with a red cross decorated on it with 1 item in each bag for the first-aid relief. When the girls arrive at each country they must first provide aid relief by treating the injured person. They will do this by using their items in the first-aid bag. Since each girl only has one item in their bag, they must work together as a team to help the injured person (a leader or junior leader).

Once they do this, they will go and learn about the country (flag, location, history), learn about the Brownies that live there, and do a craft about that country. Upon finishing these tasks, they will be whisked away to the next country that needs their help.

Once the girls have traveled to all 4 of the countries they will all meet up back in Canada for a welcome home reception!

Here they will receive a certificate of thanks, eat a Thinking Day cake and take home a first-aid bag full of their crafts they made.

Activities for each country: (all made out of construction paper)

Sri Lanka ~ elephant

Thailand ~ kites

Kenya ~ basket B

angladesh ~ umbrellas
